Kiss ATI goodbye: AMD’s retiring the brand

August 30, 2010

Kiss ATI goodbye: AMD’s retiring the brand

A moment of silence, please, for a venerable name in computing history.

46928a_01_ATI-FirePro_V8700_angled_low_resAnyone who’s ever installed a new graphics card in a computer, or who cared about the power and quality of a system’s video capabilities, has considered the ATI brand. But AMD, which bought the maker of graphics adapters in 2006, has decided to put ATI’s name on the shelf.

According to AnandTech, by the end of the year the ATI brand will be gone:

Star in Gaga for Google Music Video on Sunday, March 21 at Fishers Town Hall

Residents in Fishers are needed for on-camera talent in an effort to convince Google to select Fishers as one of its test communities for the ultra-high speed broadband project “Google Fiber”. The Town of Fishers and the Fishers Chamber of Commerce are having a call-out on Sunday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m. in front of Fishers Town Hall. Google Fiber

The Town of Fishers is submitting an official application, and part of the application process is to include a creative video showcasing the community and why it should be selected.

http://www.fishers.in.us/egov/docs/1268852812515.htm

Residents can also help the effort by completing the survey online at www.FastFishers.com under “Nominate Fishers”.

Google claims that Internet speeds of 1 gigabit per second could allow (among countless other things):

  • Health facilities to stream three-dimensional images over the web to facilitate collaboration and better patient care.
  • High-definition movie downloads of full-length feature films in less than five minutes.
  • Three dimensional video opportunities

For more information on the Google Fiber project, please visit  www.FastFishers.com.

YES, IT IS A 12 STORY BUILDING IN CHINA . LYING ON THE GROUND

   (1) An underground garage was being dug on the south side, to a
    depth of 4.6 meters.

    (2) The excavated dirt was being piled up on the north side, to a
    height of 10 meters..

    (3) The building experienced uneven lateral pressure from south and
    north.

    (4) This resulted in a lateral pressure of 3,000 tonnes, which was
greater than what the pilings could tolerate. Thus the building
toppled over in the southerly direction.

*First, the apartment building was constructed.*

Then the plan called for an underground garage to be dug out.  The excavated soil was piled up on the other side of

the building.

*Heavy rains resulted in water seeping into the ground.*

    The building began to tilt.

The building began to shift and the *_hollow_* concrete pilings were snapped  due to the uneven

lateral pressures

And thus was born the eighth wonder of the world.

If the buildings were closer together there would also have been a domino effect.

Now that, folks, is a snafu.

Don’t you feel better now, that these are the folks manufacturing nearly

EVERYTHING we buy and use today? But judge all by one.

Generation Y Finally Explained

Hmm, I’ve always wondered this myself… Now I know. - People born before 1946 were called The Silent generation..

- The Baby Boomers , are people born between 1946 and 1959. - Generation X , people have been born between 1960 and 1979.

- Generation Y
, are the people born between 1980 and 2009   Why do we call the last group Generation Y?

I never did know, but recently a cartoonist explained it very eloquently below…
